Even though every time in the past that I’ve done the Master Cleanse I swore I’d never do it again…. I started another. My plan, the 10 day fast with no food and only this lemonade drink and salt water flushes daily. My only treat would be my nightly cup of hot tea called Smooth Move.
I had been tossing the idea around to start another Lemonade Master Cleanse since bikini season was fast approaching. Well, it was here and I needed to do something fast since we spend a lot of time during the summer at Jacksonville Beach and Huguenot Park.
Since it has also helped with some medical issues in the past it was inevitable, but this is a tough way to detox and I really wasn’t looking forward to it.
One of my hobbies is making short videos about many different subjects and posting them on You Tube. Mike & I have been doing it for nearly a year now and have developed a pretty decent following. While we enjoy it immensely and love the friendships we’ve made in our little online community it doesn’t come without some negative and sometimes nasty comments from haters and Trolls. (a You Tube term for assholes behind keyboards)
Anyhow, my delay ended when one of these little weasel trolls left a comment on one of my videos saying my arms looked like “loafs of bread”…. Hmphhh!
Thus my 10 day lemonade fast or Master Cleanse began (video below)
We were lucky enough to score a couple of knives for every day carry… EDC and for the bug out bags. You never can be too prepared for a SHTF situation and a good dependable knife is a necessity. And then again, if you enjoy the good old outdoors you can never be without a good knife. We had a friend who collects knives, has been for years who also repairs, sharpens and re -handles them. He sent us a Spyderco Delica that is just a fantastic EDC knife with a really cool style and a Mora Triflex. This particular Mora knife came with a plastic sheath as many do but would make a great addition to a tackle box or to hunting gear if your not worried about a economic collapse, survival or WROL situation. Check out the video as we test out the excellent sharpening job our friend did.
Spyderco knives are backed by 30 plus years of development and research using the best steels and materials so you know as soon as you hold one in your hand you’re holding a quality product. Ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the hand and most all Spyderco knife models feature a thumb hole pull for easy opening.
Mora Knives - Every knife from Mora of Sweden is a product of knowledge about manufacturing cutting tools collected over more than 100 years. Laminated Steel (Rc 61-62), High Carbon Steel (Rc 59-60) or Stainless Steel (Rc 57) are the three different varieties of steel that can be had in a Mora Knife.
Concealed carry options for women can be a challenge. Guys pretty much wear the same type of clothes on a regular basis so having one or two concealed carry holsters will do the trick for the most part. You know… guys typically wear jeans or shorts with a pull over shirt, maybe a jacket. Easy enough to just use an in the waistband holster and you’re good to go.
Women on the other hand, with all the different types of clothing styles require a much different approach. I’m still working out the details on most of my outfits but when I’m wearing jeans or pants style business attire, my go to concealment holster is my very comfortable and durable ankle holster made by Galco Gun Leather.
Very comfortable for wearing extended hours, stays put and retains your weapon very securely.
Cameras are the last thing you think about when planning your hiking backpacking trip. The wrong gear can weigh you down quickly and we learned that the hard way. A big bulky camera can quickly become a nuisance and ruin your trip.
We needed something small, light and compact. Something with long battery life and a camera that would shout high definition photos and quality HD video.
We ended up with a Canon Powershot for our hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail or known to some as the AT.
Here’s our review….
No need to go searching around. Amazon has some of the best prices around and most times there’s FREE shipping available. Check it out and don’t forget the high quality SD card.
We went hiking again on the Appalachian Trail in late October. We planned the 3 day, 33 mile backpacking trip timed perfectly with the changing of the leaves. Many people make the fall pilgrimage annually just for the purpose of viewing the color filled mountains and what a way to welcome winter. However, there are only a few who do this on foot, with 3 days of food and supplies strapped to their backs. In our opinion, this is the only way to do it.
For cooking we went with our home made Supercat Alcohol stove. After all, on our previous trip in May it worked flawlessly. Little did we know as soon as we arrived in the parking lot of Unicoi Gap to get on the trail a storm would roll in dropping temps into the high 20′s and bring with it howling wind and rain. We decided to sleep in the truck in the parking lot that night hoping the next day would bring better weather.
It didn’t! Our ride picked us up and drove us down to Woodys Gap in Souches Georgia where we had planned on picking up the trail. Our goal was to hike the 33 miles northbound on the AT back to where we had left our truck. Unicoi Gap by the way is about 12 miles north of Helen Georgia.
Anyway, the new day did not bring clearer weather but colder, windier and just evil drizzle that made us question our decision to go forward with our plans. We had come this far. Packed and prepped for several weeks beforehand, drove the 6 1/2 hours up. Not to mention the gas just getting there was just above $200. No way were we turning back at this point. Undeterred, and wearing every stitch of clothing we brought, we set off. About 3 miles into the hike we decided some hot coffee and some snacks might be the best way to get re-energized and maybe warmed up some. After a lot of aggravation and cussing…and fussing, all by me, we realized the Super Cat alcohol stove just didn’t have what it took in these conditions to get the job done.
So to make a long story short, we got back and made a “Hiking Backpacking Gear Review” video on the stove and went back to the drawing board. After all, there has to be a more dependable way of cooking on the trail in adverse conditions. Someone… a kind soul, saw our video, recognized our frustration and was just starting up a little business manufacturing pressurized alcohol stoves out of aluminum beer bottles and selling them on the internet. Who da’ thunk it right? Well anyway he decided he would send us 3 different designs of his stoves as long as we agreed to try them out and do a video review of them.
Ya’ know? Nothing beats getting stuff in the mail. Especially when it’s FREE. The added bonus comes when you find out the product works really well. So thanks…many thanks to David at Bottlestoves.com

Another option if you are the type that doesn’t like to fool with alcohol bottles. Concern over spillage or leaks is a legitimate one. And one we have researched thoroughly…
